Akai MPC LIVE (Leaked Information)

The Akai MPC LIVE rumors have been spreading over the past months already, but now we have some hard facts on Akai’s new standalone unit! Details were first published by Ask.Audio, including a set of photos. Aside form the photos, additional supporting material includes the Non Disclosure Agreement (ha!) and more interesting for us: the Quick Start manual, which you can access here.

So what’s the deal with the Akai MPC Live?

It confirms the rumor that it’s bascially a standalone unit with a similar form factor of the MPC Touch. It runs it’s own operating system, so you can choose if you want to run it standalone or in MPC controller mode. The Quickstart Manial also indicates the following features:

  • Standalone MPC-no computer required
  • 7″ (18 cm) full-color multi-touch display Internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery
  • Also acts as a control surface for MPC 2.0 software
  • Phono inputs w/ground peg
  • 2 pairs of full-size MIDI inputs and outputs
  • 16 GB of on-board storage (over 10 GB of sound content included)
  • 2 GB of RAM for sampling
  • Full-size SD card slot
  • User-expandable 2.5″ SATA drive connector (SSD or HDD)
  • 2 USB-A 3.0 slots for thumb drives or MIDI controllers

So there’s the touchscreen, the USB ports, the audio interface and the storage. It looks like a very interesting concept, to have a dedicated custom hardware “laptop” for your beatmaking and music production.

At the moment there’s no info on how much this promising piece of gear will cost, but I think with these recent leaks, AKAI is forced to release more details on the MPC Live very soon.
