Beat Tape December 2017

Another month, another look at fresh beats from other producers. Take a look around and get inspired by their sound design & arrangement and make some heat yourself!

Statik Selektah is back with the aptly titled “8” LP (you know, for eight solo albums!) We got what we were waiting for from the veteran, that soulful, jazzy, golden era type of beats we are always craving. Joey Bada$$ and G-Eazy appear on this one.

Dr. Dundiff is preparing to drop a solo beat tape on Jakarta Records in 2018. This is the first single from Muneybeats“, a great combination of 8-bit samples and soulful chops. If the rest of the album is up to par with that track, we are in for a treat! The intro is pretty hilarious too!

Von Pea, Verbal Kent, J-live, and Wordsworth want to help you understand what is a talent and what’s not! And to do that, they rap over a dope beat by “The Other Guys“, a talented 😉 production DUO from Washington DC.

What we know about “ewonee .”… not much to be honest. He’s part of a collective named “Mutant Academy”, he got a lot of music available on his Bandcamp page, but most importantly, he is a very skilled and versatile beatmaker. You can start digging his discography with the spacey “Bond” from the “Molecular Structure” album.

Allmos is ½ of The Stuyvesants, a production duo from NY. The first single from the “Sound Affects, Vol. 1” beat tape on “Fresh Selects” is soulful and simply beautiful. Press play and be the judge!

L’orange is well known for his cinematic soul and gritty jazz samples. ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ is the mantra on this superb single taken from “The Ordinary Man“, his most recent LP on “Mello Music Group”. Two of the illest MC’s aka Blu & Elzhi are featured on the track for a sure shot killer!

The latest EP for “Tangram Records” by Belgium’s “Moodprint” is heavily influenced by 70’s Italian soundtrack sound and vibe. For all the beatmakers out there searching for untouched samples and drum breaks, this might be the kind of territories you need to investigate!

The Darkhouse Family is a Cardiff-based duo consisting of Earl Jeffers & Don Leisure. They’ve been releasing music for almost a decade together, but they really got to another level on their new album for “First Word Records”, incorporating a good dose of live instruments in the process. Check this one titled “Heart of Medina” from the album “The Offering“, and enjoy those clean drums!

If you love a smooth atmospheric type of beats, you need to listen and learn from Manchester-based producer Mecca:83. This is a track taken from the last volume of the “Life Sketches” series and it’s accompanied by a nice visual. Skateboard to this one!

Flying Lotus will go down as one of the greatest to ever do it, simple and plain. Without further ado, this is the last piece of art by the master himself.
