Beat Tape (November 2017)

With our new Beat Tape series we want to give you some inspiration from producers you might or might not have heard before.

Ivan Ave, an MC out of Norway, dropped a superb project with beats courtesy of Dam-Funk, Fredfades, DJ Harrison, Kiefer, Kaytranada and more. This single is produced by none other than MNDSGN, who gets away from his boogie/funk sound of the moment to go on a deep escapade with beautiful keys and trumpet on top.

When you have one of the most popular MC in the game backing you up, you already have a step in the right direction. You get a dope mellow beat from “Shiggy” and you are on your way to greatness. Enjoy the music of “Lute“, a protégé of “J. Cole” signed on his Dreamville label.

Pyramid Vritra follow the excellent release “God’s Poop Or Clouds?” with Matt Martians by a great solo project titled “HAL”. This track, produced by D.C.-area native producer Lance Neptune, got Vritra singing over a bass heavy uptempo jam.

Let’s get acquainted with the sound of a Japanese beatmaker who goes by the name “Fitz Ambro$e“. He just released a fresh 16 tracks beat album on the newly created “NBN” aka “Nothing But Net” label by Paris’ producer “Onra“. This song gives a good idea of the vibe throughout the project, impressive soulful sample chop with lo-fi drums full of unexpected breaks!

Samiyam join forces with Jonwayne for this extra dope instrumental track, taken from his second album on Stones Throw records titled “Pizza Party”. Can’t get enough of that bassline… and the visual is pretty funny!

Talk about a remarkable idea, the concept of “RAWS” is pretty simple but uncommon. “After a live performance by a jazz band which gets recorded, the beat-makers have an hour and a half to chop up the freshly recorded sample, flip it, and make a beat right there on the spot.” Chicago beat head “Lanzo” get that thing on lock, throwing big drums with a ridiculous swing to make your neck snap! I bet Makaya McCraven and the other players loved it!

It doesn’t take much time to realize that “Devaloop“, a sharp beatmaker from Austria, try his best to keep the boombap hip-hop sound alive. Good job and thank you!

MXXWLL is a talented producer from Sydney who dropped an impressive beat tape early September. Our favorite track from the project, the laidback west coast infused jam “Palm Trees”, is interpreted step by step on keys on this video right here.

Keepin’ things to the west, the “G-Worthy” crew get serious on this impeccable melodic banger from in-house producer “Cardo”. A new classic!

We travel now to Copenhagen to discover the sound of “Kriswontwo“. This collaboration with “Phat Kat” is reminiscent of the sound the Detroit MC had on his first albums when Dilla was the provider of the electronic hardcore hip-hop backdrop to match his raw delivery.
